Yokono’s oil paintings present imaginary landscapes and scenes touched by her unique perspective. She investigates the unreliability of sight, attempting to overcome it through painting. Her series featuring dams was inspired by a visit to the Kurobe dam in her university days. When confronted with the dam’s extraordinary size, Yokono realized she was unable to take in its entirety. She tried imagining the dam by patching together different perspectives, an experience that led to her current landscape paintings. The exhibition features six works from her dam series, including one new work. The works are not hung on walls but displayed as standing pieces, allowing visitors to physically experience Yokono’s art—a world of perspective-tracing strokes, large paintings that place the viewer within the work, and landscapes that integrate natural and artificial objects.
