Kansui Park Area
Rakusuitei Museum of Art
》Googleマップで見る

Nomura uses earth as a medium, focusing on the essential biological cycles of ingestion and excretion. Her works have a performative aspect, encompassing not only the final extruded earth, but also the act of extruding the earth, the mechanisms and tools used, and the conditions surrounding its extrusion. Her work is like a metaphor for worms tilling soil. Nomura’s installation for the exhibition, based on local research and set in the garden of the Rakusuitei Museum of Art, uses excess soil generated by Toyama Prefecture’s civil engineering works. The area surrounding the Rakusuitei Museum of Art includes a swath of land reclaimed from the former course of the Jinzu river, portions of which were modified and filled in at the start of the twentieth century. Nomura’s art, which is motivated by an interest in the relationship between people and place, provides fertile ground for reflecting on material cycles and regional history.
