Ueda is an illustrator and artist whose work appears in games, publications, advertising, and on apparel. His corporate collaborations have yielded numerous original characters. Ueda’s preference for computer-based graphic design began during his time at vocational school. Unlike analog techniques such as painting, digital designs can be easily redone at any point—a quality that Ueda says gives him a sense of freedom. At the same time, he is keenly aware of analog textures and nuances. During the printing stage, Ueda employs layering techniques and selects paper based on his desired texture. Ueda’s original characters occupy a space that transcends the confines of two-dimensional imagery, capturing the hearts of gamers and readers.
