Hayama is a ceramist who specializes in intricate overglaze decorations. His unique, highly detailed style reinterprets traditional patterns through the lens of manga and anime. The large porcelain dishes and jars that epitomize his mastery of meticulous overglaze expressions are among his most famous pieces. In recent years, Hayama has begun converting designs into large architectural murals. By digitizing his original overglaze patterns, Hayama uses a high-resolution large-format printer to enlarge the designs and transfer them onto aluminum panels. This process frees him from the technical size restraints of porcelain, enabling him to create expansive murals and installations that fill entire spaces with his unique narrative world. For the exhibition, Hayama has decorated a large door at the Masuda Sake Brewery, which enshrines images of dragons within its walls.
