Millennium Future Arts and Crafts Festival

A Festival of Craftsmanship and Artistry
The Millenium Future Arts and Crafts Festival (1000 Nen Mirai Kougei Sai) is a grand celebration of traditional crafts, contemporary handicrafts, and gastronomy. The market-style event aims to bring visitors closer to the world of craftsmanship while fostering successors among the younger generation. Over 100 artisans engaged in every kind of craft gather in Echizen from around the country to share their techniques, products, and personalities.
The main event arena is organized like a night market with stalls featuring works of traditional Echizen crafts such as Echizen washi paper, Echizen forged knives, and Echizen chests alongside crafts from throughout Japan, fashion, art, accessories, processed foods, and stalls offering workshops for visitors of all ages. Outside, eventgoers can enjoy craft beer, kitchen cars, and various craft-themed attractions.
This year, the festival will also hold an international symposium on collaborative initiatives surrounding the future of handicrafts in the age of industrial tourism. Experts and practitioners from Japan and elsewhere will examine global challenges and trends in relation to crafts, handicraft-based industrial tourism, product development, lifestyle, and work culture.
Date: Saturday, August 26th–Sunday, August 27th, 2023
Venue: Echizen City Aisin Sports Arena
Admission: Free
